Summary:

Pastor Jason Mayo joined us for chapel and explained the necessity for Christians to use edifying speech in line with Ephesians 4:29 "Are my words edifying? Verse 29 says, "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths but only such as is good for building up." So now we move from a negative to a positive. Don’t speak corruptly, but only speak-isn't that pretty intense? Only speak words, that is every time you speak, it should only be words like this. Only what is good for building others up. And that's the reality, we all know this. Our words have the power to either build people up or tear people down. That's just a fact. You know it because some people have spoken things to you that were devastating. Maybe not. I'm guessing most of us have heard things that were crushing to our souls. And prayerfully , we've heard the reverse. We've heard people speak things into our lives that built us up, gave us hope, encouraged us. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." That's how serious our words are. Death and life every time we speak. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. That's something we need to grasp, I think, especially as Christian leaders and ministers. The powerful impact our words can have on people."
