Position Status: Temporary Full-time (Will consider transition to regular status following 90 day performance evaluation)

Summary: Provides support in all areas of the Business Office in accordance with the accounting policies and practices of the Seminary, generally accepted accounting principles, and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The following duties are considered essential to the job. With or without reasonable accommodation, qualified individuals must have the ability to:
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining financial records and reports, such as budgets, forecasts, and financial statements. Contribute to completing budget tracking.
  • Process invoices, receipts, payments, and other accounting documents. Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes, and vendor reconciliations.
  • Perform data entry for financial transactions into accounting software.
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes. Assist with audit preparation and respond to inquiries from auditors.
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve discrepancies in accounts and respond to basic inquiries from internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized filing systems for financial documents and ensure compliance with record-keeping policies.
  • Help ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

Education and/or Experience: BA degree in Accounting or equivalent experience; 1+ years of experience gained through increasingly responsible Accounting positions. Internship or coursework experience in accounting or finance (preferred but not required). Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or SAP) is a plus.

Language Skills: English required.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, students, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and experience with MS Office Suite software (PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Outlook, and Word).

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; the employee is frequently required to sit.  The person is occasionally required to stand and walk.  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, though moderate noise can occur at meetings and social events.  It is a well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
