Our Staff
David Johnson has been teaching for Gateway Seminary off and on for 30 years. He taught his first class when the Arizona Campus was established in 1995. He served as the Director of the Arizona Campus from 2003-2013. He taught as an adjunct professor while serving as the Executive Director of the Arizona Mission Network of Southern Baptists (Arizona Southern Baptist Convention) from 2013-2025. He rejoined the faculty in 2025 as the Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program.
Dr. Johnson and his wife, Diana, live in Peoria, Arizona not far from their two daughters and 7 grandchildren. They are members of Royal Palms Baptist Church in Phoenix where Diana teaches a women’s Bible study and David serves as an elder. Their son, Jeremiah, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Mozambique, Africa while serving as a missionary with the International Mission Board in 2010. Since that time, they have been heavily involved in mission work in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Johnson served as a pastor of two churches in Texas and two churches in Arizona. He and his wife are graduates of Baylor University. David earned the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Some years later, he received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Gateway (then Golden Gate) Seminary. He enjoys camping, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
