Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church is a conservative Southern Baptist Church located in Wood River, Illinois. We are now accepting applications for Pastor. A prospective candidate will be expected to lead our church according to the Word of God and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. It is imperative that the candidate oppose today’s Reformed Theological movement within the Southern Baptist Convention.
Our Vision is to be a First Century type church in the 21st Century that carries out the Great Commission, the Great Commandment, and the New Commandment.

The Pastor is the spiritual overseer for the church. The Pastor shall provide spiritual leadership and equipping of the members. He is to supervise and give vision to the church’s direction and mission in accordance with God’s will. The Pastor shall fulfill administrative duties in accordance with the Church’s policy manual, Constitution, and Bylaws. The Pastor is called by God and affirmed by the congregation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
To proclaim the gospel and lead the church in proclaiming the gospel to the church and community.
To lead, plan, coordinate and evaluate all congregational services, including revivals.
To prepare and coordinate each year’s ministry programs, services, revivals, and other activities and ministries, maintain a calendar thereof, and timely enlist and inform staff, workers, and participants of the same.
To be responsible for the observance of the church ordinances.
To conduct funeral services and wedding ceremonies.
To lead the church in caring for persons in the church and community.
To represent the Church’s interest at all levels of the Southern Baptist Convention and interdenominational organizations by his participation in the respective programs.
To lead and assist in the training and counseling of deacons regarding their responsibilities to the church.
To serve as chairman of the Church Council and as ex-officio member of all other church committees, and function as the moderator for church business meetings.
To provide spiritual counseling and Christian vocational guidance and counseling as the need arises.
To provide spiritual and administrative leadership and guidance to and for the church staff.
To actively participate in the planning for the church’s future.
To supervise, direct, lead and otherwise manage the activities and duties of other paid staff personnel.
