We are seeking a full-time senior pastor of a healthy Southern Baptist Church with roughly 250 members (average total Sunday morning service attendance around 190) located in Southern California. (Our previous senior pastor had been on staff for the past 8 years and chose to leave due to family health issues and a ministry opportunity with his extended family.)
The Senior Pastor’s main purpose is to serve as the primary leader of the church in the making of disciples of Jesus for the glory of God. He shall lead the congregation, organizations, Church staff, and other Church leaders to fulfill the Church's purpose, beliefs, and functions. He shall also lead the Church to achieve its purpose of worshiping and exalting God, evangelizing unbelievers, discipling believers, and impacting society.
Our job description comes directly from the New Testament, which uses three words interchangeably for the primary leader(s) of the church (Acts 20, 1 Peter 5), and each word describes a function of the office.
1. Pastor means he is to teach the Word of God and lead the church to obey Jesus.
2. Overseer means he is to oversee the ministry of the church.
3. Elder means he is to serve as a spiritual example and leader.
*Previous senior pastor experience and MDiv preferred
