Student Pastor Job Description

The Student Pastor role exists to advance the mission of New Life Church - helping people find and follow Jesus - by leading a thriving, gospel-centered ministry for students (grades 6–12) and their families. This role is about building disciples, developing leaders, and partnering with parents to see the next generation love and follow Jesus for life.
Reports to: Executive Pastor

Who We’re Looking For
A spiritually mature, relationally engaging leader who:
o Models a growing relationship with Jesus consistent with 1 Timothy 3
o Loves students and has a passion for seeing them come to know and follow Christ
o Is a team player - humble, teachable, and collaborative
o Communicates clearly and connects well with both students and adults
o Can teach Scripture in a way that is engaging, relevant, and gospel-centered
o Is organized, self-motivated, and able to lead with both vision and execution
o Is a high-capacity leader who thrives in a fast-paced church culture

Primary Responsibilities
1. Build and Lead a Thriving Student Ministry
Create environments where students can belong, grow, and be sent:
o Lead weekly student gatherings (large group + small groups), especially Wednesday nights
o Develop and deliver engaging, biblically faithful teaching
o Design gatherings that are fun, relational, and spiritually intentional
o Oversee curriculum, worship, games, and overall flow of the student experience
o Cultivate a culture where students invite friends and feel known
o Develop a clear pathway for discipleship and next steps for students
o Plan and execute camps, retreats, and mission opportunities



2. Invest in Students Beyond the Program
Be present in the everyday lives of students:
o Build relationships through consistent presence (schools, games, events, etc.)
o Lead or participate in smaller discipleship environments
o Encourage students to engage in the full life of the church, not just student ministry
o Create opportunities and resources for students to grow in their faith throughout the week

3. Recruit, Develop, and Shepherd Leaders
Build a strong volunteer team that multiplies impact:
o Identify, recruit, and onboard new leaders
o Train and equip volunteers to disciple students effectively
o Foster a healthy, unified, and mission-driven team culture
o Provide ongoing encouragement, care, and spiritual leadership to volunteers
o Lead regular leader gatherings for alignment, development, and prayer

4. Partner with Parents
Equip families to disciple their students:
o Maintain consistent, clear communication with parents
o Provide resources and guidance to help parents lead spiritually at home
o Be available to encourage, pray with, and support parents
o Create alignment between church and home around student discipleship

5. Lead Strategically
Ensure the ministry is healthy, growing, and aligned with the church’s vision:
o Develop and execute a strategy for reaching and assimilating new students and families
o Maintain a strong and engaging social media presence
o Oversee and steward the student ministry budget
o Help shape and improve the student ministry environment and experience
o Participate in Next Gen collaboration and church-wide initiatives

General Pastoral Responsibilities
As part of the pastoral team, the Student Pastor will:
o Model spiritual leadership and a life aligned with the values of New Life Church
o Engage fully in the life of the church - gatherings, group life, and mission
o Contribute to the overall health of the church through shepherding, discipleship, and care
o Assist with pastoral needs such as counseling, visitation, teaching, weddings, and any other ministry as needed
