New Bethel Baptist Church - Jackson, MO

New Bethel Baptist Church in Jackson, MO, seeks a full-time pastor. The ideal candidate is a born-again man of God who affirms the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. He should be a growing believer who believes the Holy Bible to be the inerrant word of God and who meets the qualifications presented in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
The congregation desires a pastor whose passion for God and His word are evident in his preaching and who draws people into the sermon, preferably a man with the wisdom and competence that comes from pastoral experience. He must be able to minister to those within the church and also willing to equip and encourage our congregation to reach people outside the church. We seek a pastor who will help us to improve church communication, develop leaders, and make appropriate ministry changes in order to become healthier and more fruitful for God.
In recent years, we have experienced Sunday School attendance decline, few baptisms, few salvation, and attendance fluctuations. We are currently engaged in a church revitalization process with the assistance of our local Baptist association. We seek a leader who can help our church change its declining trajectory.
About the church:
New Bethel Baptist Church was organized on January 18, 1873. The 18 charter members of New Bethel had a vision of worshipping the Lord and reaching out to the community to help those in need and to see the lost saved. Today’s members share that same vision.
New Bethel is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, The Missouri Baptist Convention, and the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association. We fully affirm the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. Our current membership is around 75, with an average Sunday Morning Worship Attendance around 50 in the last year, as well as a small contingent on Sunday evenings. We recently began serving a meal before our Wednesday evening services and have seen a good turnout for those.
New Bethel is located in a beautiful rural setting 14 miles northeast of Jackson (population 14,500) in Cape Girardeau County and near the Mississippi River. Though the church is located on a county road, the primary route to the church is completely paved. Even though we are rural, we are not far from amenities. Nearby Cape Girardeau (population 42,000, about 20 miles away) has 2 hospitals and a large number of doctors with varied specialties. It offers a variety of shopping experiences and is home to Southeast MO State University. The city of Jackson also has grocery stores and other small variety-type shops. The church is in the Jackson School District, which is one of the top-rated schools in the area.
New Bethel is a very mission-minded church. Our mission organizations are always engaging the church in ways to participate in Mission Projects, including shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse and providing school supplies at the beginning of each school year.
The current church building was built in 1966, with additions in the 1970s and 1990s. The building is well-maintained by our only 2 other paid staff members, the custodian and groundskeeper.
For our pastor and his family, the church provides a modern ranch-style home that was built in the early 1990s and is well-maintained. The parsonage has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs, with a finished basement that has 2 rooms that serve as bedrooms and another bathroom. It sits atop a hill across from the church, overlooking a beautiful valley.
New Bethel has a history of being a very loving and caring congregation. In essence, we are family. We share in each other’s joys and sorrows. If anyone in our congregation is in need, there are always many who are willing to reach out and try to meet that need. Our basic beliefs and actions are based in God’s word, and we try to seek His will in all of our decisions. We desire to have a pastor’s family who will love us and let us love them in return.
