Church Overview

Legacy Church took on a new identity in 2020 when the church relaunched from the historic First Baptist Church of Downey, a church with a 150-year history. We are technically known as a revitalization or replant church. Our Founding Pastor leads us to be devoted students of God’s word, to prioritize first-time visitors as the most important people in the room, and to work hard to produce results while having a lot of fun. He is high-energy and intense, and equally relaxed with a wide range of interests, but loves spending most of his time leading the advancement of the church. Throughout the pandemic, 80 individuals have followed Jesus Christ in baptism and church membership. Average Sunday campus attendance is between 150 and 250, and God continues to bless our evangelism efforts with new visitors every week. The church’s online ministry has grown throughout the pandemic and is reaching hundreds across the nation and is primed for expansion. Our style is modern and laidback with a “come as you are” and “leave as Christ’ attitude.

Praise and Production Teams Overview

Legacy Church’s praise and production teams consist of over 15 volunteers of all ages and varying skill levels, from beginners to professionals. The team is united in camaraderie under friendship and the purposes of using our ministries to bring glory to God and to expand our church. We preserve the integrity of God’s word by not leading the church with praise songs written by groups promoting false teachings and controversy. (Prosperity Gospel, Word of Faith, New Apostolic Reformation, Little Gods Theology, Scandals, Etc.) We use modern styles of praise that are energetic and contemplative to connect the church to God and to prepare the church for the receiving of God’s word.
