Associate Pastor
Job Description
Purpose
An Associate Pastor works alongside the Lead /Senior Pastor and must be an ordained minister. He will lead students, children, and some adult ministries. He will love people and have a passion for outreach and missions, both personally and at a ministry level within a multi-generational congregation. This Pastor has a passion for the Word of God, and the conviction and confidence to always be moving the congregation to be fully devoted followers of Christ and to serve. He lives out the Great Commission by sharing the gospel boldly.
Key Accountabilities
Church Ministry Leadership
• Casts a vision for the ministries under his direction: which are
primarily Students and Children’s ministries (Student Worship Services, Connection Groups, Kid’s Club, Kid’s Connect, AWANA and Mission Trips.)
• Gains consensus and alignment with the church and ministry leaders, involving them in the process of setting a vision and creating action plans.
• Recruits, equips, guides, and mentors the ministry leaders.
• Enlists and develops new leaders by mentoring, coaching, and teaching.
• Ensures the discipleship and training of ministry leaders.
• Conducts meetings with the Ministry Leaders on a regular basis.
• Plans ahead to keep staff and leaders informed of future events and topics
Family Outreach
• Works to enhance the church outreach to families, students, and children.
• Assimilates new members into the life of the congregation.
• Encourages ministry leaders to carry out their work with emphasis on welcoming others to participate in the mission work of Christ.
• Mentorship, Coaching & Counseling: Identifies and raises up new young leaders to assist in ministry and to help perform these functions.
• Cultivates spiritual gifts within the church body.
• Participates in pastoral counseling which arises out of his work relationships in the church and community.
Pastoral Care & Visitation
• Provides Pastoral Care to members who are families, students, and children.
• Oversees Baby Dedications.
• Coordinates all visitations needs, including hospital, marital, and or crisis visitations.
• Ensures visits to shut-ins and widows every two months.
Key Responsibilities
Spiritual and Worship Leadership
• Provides support and backup to the Lead / Senior Pastor in the preaching and teaching of the church.
• Develops his own teaching ministry, continually expanding his knowledge, skills, and abilities related to this position and to provide depth in the teaching ministry of the church.
• Participates as a member of the Elder and Deacon Boards.
Overall Health and Direction of the Church
• Accountable first and foremost, to God and His Word, and secondly to the Lead / Senior Pastor.
• Works in accordance with the purpose, vision, bylaws, and constitution of the Church.
Leading the Church
• Provides support to the Lead / Senior Pastor in the daily management of the pastoral and office staff.
• Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Assists the Lead / Senior Pastor in recruiting, recommending for hire, training, and supervising the church staff.
• Maintains a healthy working atmosphere with all boards, teams, and staff.
• Maintains a working relationship characterized by trust, mutual support, and open communications to sustain a give-and-take management approach.
Discipleship and Evangelism
• Supports the Lead / Senior Pastor with discipleship programs.
• Supports the Lead / Senior Pastor in equipping others to evangelize within the community.
Fellowship
• Participates in fellowship events which enable him and his family to be refreshed and to sustain contact with all segments of the church.
Membership: Becomes an active member of First Baptist Church of Clermont.
Qualifications
Required
• Qualified to minister in the church.
• Graduate of an accredited Southern Baptist Seminary
• Minimum of 2-5 years successful associate pastoral tenure.
• Maintains a vital personal relationship with the Lord through daily Bible study and prayer.
• Has a consistent spiritual and moral character and lifestyle.
• Maintains proper priorities at home with his family.
• Expected to take at least one day off every week and regular vacation times away to set an example before the people of Godly balanced family living.
• A period of personal sabbatical for growth and renewal shall be planned and presented every 5 years.
• Demonstrate a high level of competency and excellence in the study of the scriptures, church leadership, organization, and equipping the church to be disciples.
• Position requires ability to obtain FBI, PA, and Child Abuse clearances.
