First Baptist Church, Lake Jackson is searching for a senior pastor, and we are praying for God’s leadership in this effort.

Our Senior Pastor of 12 years resigned in September 2023. In January of this year, the church elected a Pastor Search Committee, which is now identifying candidates. We know God has the right man for FBC LJ, and we ask you to pray about our need and help us identify that man. Attached is the Pastor Search Team’s Summary list of Pastor Qualifications. This list of qualifications is partly based on church survey input, but the search team primarily developed these qualifications based on prayer for God’s leading.

First Baptist Lake Jackson is a well-established, multi-generational, mission-minded church with an attendance of about 350 members each Sunday morning. Lake Jackson is located on the Gulf Coast about 45 minutes south of Houston. FBC LJ has one morning service, an evening service and a Wednesday night Prayer meeting. We have been blessed with historically extensive facilities and a great staff. The Lord has also blessed the church financially and led us to make large annual commitments to mission activities. The church currently has active mission activities in Alaska, Montana, Egypt, and Bulgaria. Also, since the church’s founding in 1943, the Lord led the church to start numerous missions in our own community. Five of those missions are now self sustaining independent churches. Our most recent start is a Hispanic mission, which has been active for the last 12 years. As you can see, this is an exciting time in our church’s history, and we look forward to the next chapter of our church’s legacy.

Pastor’s Qualifications and Role Description 2024

The Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson (FBC-LJ) is to lead the church to fulfill its mission: “Knowing God and Making Him Known.” The pastor is responsible to the church for providing spiritual and administrative leadership and is to use his skills in proclamation and pastoral care to meet the needs of members of the congregation and to lead outreach to the community.

The Pastor is accountable first and foremost to God. The Pastor should work together with the Church Body, Deacons, and Lead Teams to fulfill God’s mission for His church as understood and practiced by this congregation of believers.

Required Qualifications:
• The Pastor should meet the requirements listed for an overseer in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and 1 Peter 5:1-4
• The Pastor must faithfully support the inerrancy and authority of the Bible.
• The Pastor must fully support The Baptist Faith & Message 2000

Preferred Qualifications:
• A formal theological education from a Southern Baptist Seminary
• A minimum of 10 years of ministry experience
• A minimum of 5 years in positions of church leadership

General Duties
• Plan and conduct the worship services; prepare and deliver sermons; lead in observance of ordinances
• Equip the church and develop opportunities in the areas of evangelism, discipleship, and missions
• Visit with members and prospects
• Serve as chairman of the Leadership Council to lead in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the church ministries
• Work with deacons and lead teams as they perform their responsibilities and to delegate his responsibilities as appropriate
• Moderate church business meetings or delegate if appropriate.
• Serve as chief administrator and supervisor of the paid church staff
• Officiate wedding ceremonies and funerals
• Conduct counseling sessions with members as needed
