Principle Function:

The Assistant Pastor is responsible for supporting and aiding the Senior Pastor with ministerial and pastoral needs as they arise. The Assistant, like the Pastor, is not responsible for doing all the work of ministry in the church, but for overseeing the work and ensuring that it is done properly. The Assistant Pastor may be assigned specific tasks to perform or areas of ministry to administrate. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:
• Oversee ministry groups to ensure alignment with church vision
• Lead worship services as requested
• Lead staff meetings as requested
• Preaching for main worship services as requested
• Teach bible study classes as requested
• Represent the Senior Pastor at committee and ministry team meetings in his absence
• Coach, mentor and instruct all staff to promote the entire ministry plan of the church
• Perform administrative tasks such as developing program budgets and/or documentation for external programs
• Counsel church members through difficult life circumstances (e.g., bereavement, divorce, job loss)
• Visit hospitals, care facilities or homes of members who are sick and shut in
• Conduct weddings or funerals for church members
• Recruit volunteer participants for events and programs sponsored by the church
• Network with the community and local churches to develop partnerships
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor

Requirements (knowledge, skills, abilities):
• An advanced or college degree is required
• A Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, or other related area of study is preferred
• Five years of ministry related experience within a church setting
• Must exemplify Christian character and believe in the Holy Bible and be familiar with the Baptist Doctrine
• Must meet the guidelines of Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Timothy 3:1-7
• Must hold or be in the process of obtaining ministerial credentials such as a “License to Preach” or “Ordination to Vocational Ministry”
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills
• Must have a proven ability to work effectively with diverse individuals in the congregation, on the staff, in the ministries, and across the teams of volunteers and servant workers
• Must have a basic understanding of the nature and operation of the church as described by scripture
• Must commit to the church’s discipleship process: Connect; Grow; Serve; and Go!
• Must be a bridge builder who is process/detail oriented
• Must have strong leadership ability
• Must be self-motivated
