Central Baptist Church of Johnson City, TN is seeking a Senior Pastor, following the retirement on October 1, 2025 of Dr. Tommy Hood. Desirable candidates will have an advanced degree from a Baptist seminary (doctorate preferred), a minimum of 10 years of relevant full-time ministry experience, preferably having led a team in a multi-staff setting, and possess the
spiritual maturity, biblical integrity, and heart for shepherding God’s people.
The Senior Pastor should foster a vision compatible with Central’s current strategic plan, its longstanding emphasis on local and global missions, and its priority to reach young families and students. Central Baptist – JC is a multigenerational downtown congregation of approximately 400 people, composed of a wide range of demographics (age, socio-economic status,
music/worship style, etc.). We partner with the Tennessee Baptist Convention, the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and we adhere to the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message, supports the equal roles of men and women in all areas of service, including that of deacon.
