Summary: This position fulfills a combination of responsibilities, with primary responsibility for the general operations of the Arizona Campus Regional Library Facility, overseeing of the collections housed within, providing reference services to students and faculty, and supervision of support staff and volunteers. Duties include reference services, collection management, and circulation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The following duties are considered essential to the job. With or without reasonable accommodation, qualified individuals must have the ability to:

General Responsibilities:

  • Oversee opening and closing of library
  • Promote the use of library materials and instruct students in the use of the library catalog
  • Solicit student and faculty perceptions and needs via surveys and other viable methods
  • Actively participate in collection analysis and development
  • Assist in the establishment of cooperative agreements with regional theological libraries
  • Assist Regional Campus Director in hiring of paid library staff
  • Oversee daily training and workflow of both volunteer and part-time paid staff
  • Maintain positive staff relations with other campus departments

Public Services/Reference Responsibilities:

  • Instruct patrons (students, faculty, and community members) in finding, evaluating, and using theological research tools and resources available both locally and online
  • Develop various bibliographic aids and handouts to assist AZC and other seminary patrons
  • Develop and hosts regular orientations and training for patrons on how to use the library and resources
  • Provide course integrated library instruction for biblical, historical, and theological survey courses offered at the AZC or online
  • Process and complete ILL/ICL requests

Collection Management Responsibilities:

  • Place requested course material on reserve at or near the beginning of each semester
  • Supply cataloging information to ONT cataloger for materials needing original cataloging
  • Oversee the physical processing of new and used local campus library materials
  • Evaluate donated materials to determine possible value to the collection
  • Send completed donor forms to ONT campus library

Circulation Responsibilities:

  • Manage circulation and storage of library materials
  • Correspond with patrons regarding overdue/lost library materials and library notices
  • Collect and deposit fines and fees

Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:

  • Either theological training or training in library services preferred
  • Progressive supervisory experience in a customer service setting
  • Experience with OCLC’s WMS software preferred
  • A working knowledge of theological reference tools including use of traditional print and online resources.


Language Skills: English required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak and perform effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to think creatively to address library patrons’ questions.

Software: Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee should be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, though moderate noise can occur at meetings and social events.  It is a well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
