Called to serve the Chinese population of Tucson in 1955, two missionaries, Mary Etheridge and Nina Gillespie gathered about 30 Chinese Tucsonans together for bilingual Sunday School classes. Tucson Chinese Baptist Church grew from these meetings and today is a thriving, multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-generational church with a regular attendance of 80 in the English service and 25 in the Chinese. Within the last 65 years, TCBC has since grown and evolved into a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-generational church with a congregation of roughly 100 regular attendees. Our vision statement is “Teaching Christ, Becoming Christlike. Taking Christ Beyond Church.”

The Associate Pastor of Discipleship will be tasked with working alongside the Senior Pastor and volunteer staff to implement the church vision statement stated above. Though this role will generally be supporting the entire church, the Associate Pastor of Discipleship will be particularly focused on serving and cultivating spiritual growth in TCBC’s English- speaking youth, college and young adult ministries. The chosen candidate will be expected to actively pray with and for the members of these ministry groups, pursue personal discipleship relationships with them, and encourage them to pursue new ministry opportunities inside and outside of church. This Associate Pastor reports directly to the Senior Pastor and is expected to meet with him on a weekly basis. Please see below for additional job responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities:
• Work with Senior Pastor and Christian Education Director to train and equip volunteer staff (teachers and other lay leaders) in youth, college, and young adult groups
• In conjunction with Senior Pastor and Christian Education Director, develop discipleship tracks that encourage outreach and mobilization of our youth, college and young adults for evangelism and utilizing our facilities to their fullest extent
• In conjunction with Senior Pastor and Christian Education Director, help the church develop a vibrant small group ministry
• Teach or preach the word of God and provide relief for Senior Pastor during designated gathered worship times (Sunday morning and Friday night)
• Partner with other churches and para-church ministries to reach other youth, college and young adults in Tucson
• Other responsibilities as necessary in order to help the church fulfill the vision statement

Required Qualifications:
• Personal, growing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ
• Willingness to wholeheartedly pursue the church vision statement personally
• Experience discipling others either in a local church or other ministry setting for at least one full year
• Theological agreement with the “2000 Baptist Faith and Message (”
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
• Willingness to undergo and pass a thorough background check

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience working with Asian Americans
• Some level of seminary training
