Director of Missions (DOM)
Redwood Empire Baptist Association
Employment Status: Full-time, at-will employee
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week; Days off may not include Sunday
Compensation: $95–105K (Total Compensation includes, salary, housing allowance, and benefits); Commensurate with qualifications/experience
Direct Report: Reports directly to REBA Leadership Team as ad interim Executive Board; indirectly to REBA Executive Board and to Messengers of the REBA Annual business session
Principal Function:
The Director of Missions/Mission Catalyst (DOM) is employed to ensure that the strategic objectives of the Redwood Empire Baptist Association are efficiently and effectively achieved.
The DOM serves as the key strategic executive leader, promoting REBA’s vision, mission, and core values, by way of:
• Serving as the corporation’s Chief Executive Officer
• Organizational Administration and Staff Supervision
• Pastoral guidance and support to REBA pastors and churches
• Budget planning and proposal consistent with associational strategic objectives
• Associational strategy implementation in cooperation with REBA churches
• Cooperating with leaders at the California Southern Baptist Convention and other local associations.
Four Defining Roles of the DOM:
1. Leader/Overseer – The DOM generates and motivates the progress of the Association toward its missional goals and objectives by way of strategic planning, clear and timely communication, regular organizational assessments and improvements, and ministry accountability. The DOM will also be responsible for event planning with respect to a variety of events including the Annual Meeting, regular seminars, and workshops.
2. Mentor/Developer – The DOM supports the individual REBA pastors to become effective in their servant leadership of the local church by way of friendship, coaching, consulting, and networking, and the provision of leadership development events, opportunities, and curricula.
3. Visionary/Catalyst – The DOM captures and casts a vision of missional success, stirring and recruiting REBA churches and leaders to collaborate for the realization of that vision by way of regular and varied media, both traditional and technological, and by exemplary participation.
4. Pastor/Shepherd – The DOM engages REBA pastors and church leaders individually and in small groups to nurture their spiritual strength and development by way of personal example as a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, and by initiation of reflection, prayer, and growth opportunities.
Qualifications and Expectations:
• Be devoted disciple of Jesus Christ
• Be an ordained Southern Baptist minister
• Hold to the Baptist Faith and Message, 2000
• A demonstrated call to pastoral ministry with a minimum of 8 years’ experience at the local church level
• Holds a master’s degree (or higher) with a ministry or theological concentration from an established Seminary, Bible College, or Christian University
• Possesses the character qualities and spiritual giftedness of a shepherd/overseer as outlined in 1 Timothy and Titus
• A capable public speaker able to effectively preach the Bible
• A capable financial manager with experience in the local church or other faith-based, non-profit organization
• Communicates well through email, social media, and video
• Demonstrated ability to lead an organization in diverse and inter-cultural environments Will hold membership in a Redwood Empire Baptist church
