Job Description
Minister of Music and Worship
Friendly Avenue Baptist Church
(December 2020)
Philosophy
The following philosophy over-arches the Music and Worship Ministry aspect of Friendly
Avenue Baptist Church:
Friendly Avenue Baptist Church seeks, as part of its mission and in accordance with
biblical principles, to encourage, disciple, and empower Christians of all ages in the fervent
and authentic worship of God through music in the life of the church. We seek to
accomplish Friendly Avenue Baptist Church’s stated mission of “bringing all people into the
joy of a transforming relationship with Jesus Christ,” through our discipleship pathway:
“Connect, Grow, Serve, Reach.”
Scriptural Basis
There are numerous verses of Scripture that are devoted to biblically based worship and
singing. The following verses in particular reflect the basis for music and worship at
Friendly Avenue Baptist Church:
- Psalm 33:1-3 – “Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to
praise Him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to Him on the ten-stringed
lyre. Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.”
- John 4:23-24 – “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers
will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers
the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in
truth.”
- 2 Corinthians 2:14 – “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal
procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of
knowledge of Him.”
- Colossians 3:16-17 – “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you
teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and
songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”
Role
The Minister of Music and Worship, as part of the larger ministry team and support staff of
Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, serves under the authority of the Senior Pastor and at the
pleasure of the congregation. As with all other pastoral staff, the Minister of Music and
Worship shall have as his goal the accomplishment of the mission and vision of Friendly
Avenue Baptist Church.
