Youth Pastor
First Baptist Church of Carmi - Carmi, IL
Salary/Range: $45,000-$50,000 annually
First Baptist Church of Carmi, Illinois, located in beautiful Southern Illinois, is searching for a Youth Pastor to lead a growing ministry of 6th-12th grade students. Currently, we average 50-60 students, and the Illinois Baptist Children’s Home and Family Services are included in our ministry. Our church has a rich history of ministry toward youth and children, and we’re following God’s leadership to call a Youth Pastor.
General Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in the area of Youth Ministry, Theology, or Christian Education (or in the process of obtaining such a degree) or three (3) years’ experience in church youth ministry.
Follow the current Baptist Faith and Message.
Relocate to and/or live in Carmi.
Successfully undergo criminal history and background check with acceptable results.
Character Qualities:
Be a self-motivated leader imparting the vision of youth ministry to students, parents, church staff, church congregation and the Carmi community.
Meet the biblical mandates for leaders found in 1 Timothy 3 1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
Love the lost (evidenced through evangelism) and the saved (evidenced through discipleship), especially among the youth in the Carmi area.
Be a man of the Word and prayer.
Position Responsibilities:
Church Community
Work with church committees to ensure youth and youth programs are considered and part of church programming.
Work alongside Family and Children’s Ministries events.
Work to bridge any potential gaps between Children’s Ministry and the Student Ministry.
Attend all Worship Services, Sunday School, and Church staff meetings/gatherings. Also, be involved with church-wide activities/functions and extracurricular activities.
Faith Community
Stay current with regional youth ministry events and practices.
Participate in (attend) youth leadership conferences and Greater Wabash Baptist Association youth meetings.
Secular Community
Be an active visible member of the community.
Develop rapport with the community (especially the youth).
Attend and support Carmi Schools extracurricular activities and community events.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain a record keeping system (preferably electronic) for all youth related ministry activities and information.
Work closely with the youth committee:
to carry out the church youth program;
to create and implement long-range planning;
to evaluate the successes and failures of the youth ministry.
Prepare an annual budget for youth ministry. Administer the approved youth budget according to church policy.
Be responsible and accountable for resources, tools, equipment, and any property entrusted to you for use in the youth ministry.
Organize and lead weekly youth fellowships, worship time, and Bible studies.
Practice discipleship and evangelism training.
Organize and lead local and foreign mission events, and camp activities.
Recruit, vet, and recommend to the church Administrative Committee volunteer youth workers.
Involve parents in planning youth ministry strategies and with preparing for events, trips, and mission trips.
