Blue Mountain Baptist Church (BMTBC) is located in the beautiful historic town of Baker City, Oregon. We are a close-knit community of approximately 10,000 people nestled in the Baker Valley and surrounded by the Wallowa, Elkhorn, and Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon. Our City, though lovely and welcoming, is largely un-churched with only 11% of its residents identifying as Evangelical Protestants according to the most recent surveys back in 2010. There are only a few Bible-believing churches in town and many would consider Baker City to be a mission field. BMTBC has a growing attendance of about 110 people, including our sixty or so members. We, as a body, fervently believe that our mission as disciples of Christ is described by Jesus Himself in Matthew 28 where he commands “go.. and make disciples of all nations...”
Therefore, our statement of purpose is simple: Be Disciples of Jesus. Make disciples of Jesus.
To this end, we believe that our duty to others does not cease after salvation but continues in ongoing relationships as detailed in Hebrews 10, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together... encouraging one another...” Additionally, Paul exhorts believers in the letter to the Colossians, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom...” In obedience to these and other passages we have a vital ministry of small groups that meet throughout the week in the homes of members to pray, encourage, and minister to one another. Our congregation also has a large children's ministry as well as other very active, established ministries with strong leadership.
Our current pastor will be leaving the church once God brings us the best replacement for him. We are seeking an ordained man with the qualifications of a leader as laid out by the word of God (1 Tim. 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9) and in the articles of our church's by-laws:

1. He must exhibit a passion for Christ and be growing in maturity by turning away from sin, spending time in God's word and prayer, leading a Spirit-filled life, using his gifts in ministry, and persevering in adversity. (Eph. 5:15-33, 6:1-9, 5:1-2; Gal. 5:22-23; Eph. 6:18; Col. 3:16; Rom. 12:1-2; 2 Tim. 2:15)
2. He must exhibit a servant's heart while leading with compassion and care. He must demonstrate competence in his role as the church leader, keeping both his ministry and other ministries in the church focused and guided to their purpose. As Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
3. He must take the time to seek God's leadership, help, and direction in all matters through prayer and the Bible. (Heb 4:12, Rom 12:2, James 1:5)

We believe that God will bring us exactly the right leader we need to help our church continue to grow and disciple those believers that are right now praying for His guidance in this matter. We trust in the words of Christ in Matthew 7:7 where he declares, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
We are looking for a man with at least five years experience in a pastoral leadership position. It is also strongly recommended that candidates have attained a ministry degree(s) from one of our six Southern Baptist seminaries, although degrees from other conservative theological institutions will be considered. If you would like to be considered for this position, please apply at our website

Thess 5:12-13 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
