The Berkeley Crossroads Baptist Church (BCrBC) in Berkeley, California is seeking a new English Pastor that God has chosen for us. BCrBC is at 1951 Sacramento Street, Berkeley CA, 94702. It is just off of University Avenue, about a mile from the UC Berkeley campus. Berkeley Crossroads Baptist is the English-speaking ministry of Berkeley Chinese Baptist Church. The position of pastor can be full-time, bi-vocational or student pastor.

The English-speaking congregation, aka Berkeley Crossroads Baptist Church (BCrBC), ranges on Sunday from 30-50 people, primarily American Born Chinese but is multi-ethnic; with a wide range of age groups. Most reside in the local East Bay area of San Francisco. The Chinese speaking congregation, aka Berkeley Chinese Baptist Church ranges on Sunday from 80-100 people, and are mainly Cantonese speaking, of Chinese heritage. Except for matters of facility or staff these two congregations operate as separate churches.

Essential Qualifications & Attributes:

• Servant Leader, with a Shepherd’s heart and Character (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9)
• Strong inter-personal and multi-cultural skills with different age groups
• Demonstrated leadership skills and working well in group settings

Additional Qualifications & Attributes:

• Ability to equip and edify members
• Demonstrated leadership experience in healthy ministries in a local church
• Master of Divinity from notable seminary (or in process)
• Effective preacher and teacher
• Ability to motivate and challenge people
• Strong commitment to, and practice of, personal evangelism

• Preaching– Give God’s message for Sunday’s English service with a strong commitment to expository preaching.
• Equipping: Equipping the saints to do the work of the ministry
• Leading – Spiritual Leadership and Direction; Provide long-term vision, strategy, and leadership for the church.
• Worship – Provide guidance to Worship Department in planning worship services. Hold monthly Lord’s Supper.
• Prayer – Leader for the church in prayer and prayer meeting: Prayer meetings, pray with staff, prayer with deacons
• Visitation and caring – visitation of members, visitor, and those in need, through personal contact and working with the Visitation Department
• Discipleship – Training and discipling as needed
• Baptisms - provide training to prepare candidates, arrange for baptismal events and arrange follow-up for life-long membership and service
• Counseling
• Weddings & Funerals
• Outreach: Develop and provide leadership for outreach ministries

• Staff Meetings - attend weekly meetings
• Church Council - attend council and business meetings
• Elder* and Deacon Meetings – Lead as lead Elder, the weekly Elder and monthly Deacon meetings
• Work with staff to share administrative work, (e.g: mail, facility needs, etc.)
• Communication with other congregations, community, and Southern Baptist Convention
• Maintain necessary office hours

* While the current organization does not have elders, a reorganization was recently enacted to have biblical elders and the pastor as the lead elder.
